568 RUST PRIMER

PRIMER

An alkyd-based anti-corrosive primer for new or previously painted structural steel, aluminium, weathered galvanised iron and other metal surfaces. Non-toxic (lead and chromate free) inhibitive pigments protect metal against rust and corrosion while outstanding film adhesion seals out harmful moisture.

Available in sizes: 0,75 L, 2,5 L

Spreading Rate : 13 – 14 m2/ l
Dry Time at 20°C : 2 do 3 hours to touch ; 8 hours to recoat
Thinning : up to 5 % percent with water, if necessary
For application by : Brush, roller, spray

Performance Features

  • Special pigments inhibit rust formation.
  • Good adhesion to metal.
  • Gives a smooth surface for a quality finish.
  • Use on interior or exterior metal surfaces.

Performance Guide

  • Weather Resistance : Excellent protection for metals when topcoated.
  • Heat Resistance : up to 120°C. Continuous heat will cause premature yellowing and embrittlement.
  • Water Resistance : Good resistance to water and condensation.
  • Solvent Resistance: Good resistance to aliphatic solvents and alcohols. Sensitive to aromatic hydro carbons and other strong solvents.

VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds): This product is category A/i SB: One pack performance coatings. Ready to use product contains maximum 499g/L which is under the relevant EU limit values: 500g/l (2010).

Surface Preparation

  • Degrease surface to remove oil, dirt and contaminants.
  • Remove loose rust and scale with scraper and wire brush or by abrasive blasting.
  • Prime as outlined below. Finish with 588 MOORESTYLE DTM Semi-gloss Enamel or any of MOORESTYLE Wood & Metal Enamels.
  • Iron and Steel: Prepare as above. Prime with 568 MOORESTYLE Rust Primer. Sand lightly and apply a second prime coat on new work.
  • Galvanised Iron: Heavily rusted galvanised iron, where the zinc coating is mostly spent, can be prepared and primed as in Iron and Steel (above). Prime new galvanised iron with 023 FRESH START Acrylic Primer.
  • Aluminium: Degrease to remove oil, dirt and contaminants. Roughen new surface with steel wool prior to priming.
  • Previously Painted Surfaces: Sand smooth and remove loose paint and rust. Spot prime any bare metal, then prime with one full coat.

Application

  • Stir thoroughly before and during use.
  • Apply by brush, roller or spray gun.
  • Ready for use.
  • Do not apply when air or surface temperature is below 10AC or when the humidity is high.
  • Dries to touch in 2 to 3 hours.
  • Allow 8 hours before recoating.
  • Dry times are longer under cool/moist conditions.
  • Equipment Cleaning : Clean brushes and equipment with white spirits.
