PRIMER

100% Acrylic Alkali Resisting Primer

A pigmented, 100% acrylic emulsion-based product for priming and sealing new concrete and masonry. It stands up to the alkalinity that is likely to cause early paint failure. Ensure surfaces are thoroughly dry before applying primer. Use under emulsion paints and masonry paints.

Spreading Rate : 9 – 11 m2/ l
Dry Time at 20°C : 1 hour to touch, 2 hours to recoat
Thinning : 10% with water
For application by : Brush, roller, spray

  • Weather Resistance : Good resistance to weather when topcoated with Benjamin Moore Resists rain and condensation. 100% acrylic finishes
  • Environmental Resistance : Provides good resistance to concrete carbonation when topcoated at recommended spreading rate
  • Heat Resistance : Up to 65°C
  • Water Resistance : Resists rain and condensation.

VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds): EU limit value for this product category A/g type WB: Primers, 30g/l (2010). This product contains max 29g/l VOC.

Surface Preparation

  • Surface to be painted must be free of all loose material such as flaking and peeling paint, dust, concrete salts, form oils and powdering masonry.
  • The surface must be clean with all traces of grease, oil, and dirt removed.
  • Remove loose material by scraping and sanding.
  • Sand glossy surfaces to a dull finish.
  • Apply one coat of 181 SUPER SPEC. Acrylic Alkali-resisting Primer.
  • New Concrete and Masonry: Surface must be thoroughly dry before applying primer.
  • Previously Painted Surfaces: Prepare as outlined above, ensuring surface is clean.

Application

  • Stir paint thoroughly before and during use.
  • Apply by roller, brush, or spray.
  • Thin 10% if needed to ease application.
  • Do not apply at temperatures below 10OC.
  • Drying times are longer under cool/moist conditions.
  • Equipment Cleaning : Clean equipment in warm, soapy water promptly after painting.
